The Peppol Directory
The Peppol Directory is a public, opt-in search engine of Peppol participants — name, country and Peppol ID. Unlike the SMP/SML (technical routing, always on), Directory listing is voluntary; businesses opt in so customers and suppliers can find their Peppol ID.

Practical consequence: to check whether a trading partner can receive Peppol documents, query the SMP/SML — that’s what the participant check does. Use the Directory to discover an unknown partner’s Peppol ID by name.
