Peppol vs PDF by e-mail

A PDF in an e-mail is a picture of an invoice; a Peppol invoice is data. Mandates in a growing list of countries make structured invoices legally required, and even where they don't, Peppol removes manual typing, invoice fraud and "it went to spam".

PDF e-mail feels free until you count the cost: manual data entry on the receiving side, fraudulent “changed bank account” PDFs, no delivery confirmation, and — in mandate countries — no legal validity for VAT purposes. Structured delivery over Peppol fixes all four, and hybrid delivery covers the long tail: recipients not yet on the network still get their PDF by e-mail, automatically.
